Good Song: Take The Money And Run by the Steve Miller Band

Bad Lyrics: Take The Money And Run is guilty of a lot of forced rhyming, but none so bad as this verse:

Billy Mack is a detective down in Texas
You know he knows just exactly what the facts is
He ain’t gonna let those two escape justice
He makes his livin’ off of the peoples’ taxes

If he’s following the earlier rhyme scheme, “Texas” is supposed to rhyme with “justice.” You’re pushing it, Steve.

“Facts is” and “taxes” rhyme, sure. Unfortunately, it should be “facts are.” Hey, we’ve all fudged some grammar before, but to sacrifice subject-verb agreement in the name of a simple rhyme? Steve Miller, we expected more from you. Go on, take your money and run.

Coward.
